The Plot
In bustling Mumbai, Azad Rathore, a jailer at a women's prison, emerges as an unlikely champion, challenging systemic corruption. He doesn't seek riches for personal gain; instead, he uses hostages to garner resources for the disadvantaged. His path intertwines with that of NSG officer Narmada Rai, culminating in a romantic alliance. Central to the narrative is the story of Vikram, Azad's father. An Indian Army commando, Vikram faced betrayal at the hands of the arms dealer, Kaalie Gaikwad, forever shifting the Rathore family's trajectory. As echoes of the past resonate in the present, Azad, with support from unexpected quarters, embarks on a mission to rectify deep-seated wrongs, carving a new legacy for his lineage.
The Performances
In "Jawan," Shah Rukh Khan showcases one of his most commendable acts. Seamlessly slipping into the roles of Vikram and Azad Rathore, he exudes versatility and charm, particularly shining in the action-packed sequences. Nayanthara, marking her Bollywood debut as Narmada Rai, an ally to Azad, is equally impressive, sharing palpable on-screen chemistry with Khan. Vijay Sethupathi, embodying the antagonist Kaalie Gaikwad, brings a menacing energy, matching Khan's intensity blow for blow.
The Direction
Atlee, in his inaugural Hindi directorial venture, unequivocally establishes his directorial prowess. He assembles all quintessential elements of commercial cinema – action, drama, romance, comedy, and music – while ensuring the film remains poignant and socially relevant. The pacing and editing keep viewers on the edge, with Atlee drawing commendable performances from his ensemble cast, supported by a proficient technical crew.
